Secret slush funds bankroll Labor’s factional battles

The SMH reported last week on how union funds bankroll Labor’s factional battles:

Millions of dollars in secret union slush funds, training schemes and members’ dues are propping up Labor’s dwindling union base, and bankrolling damaging factional battles for delegates to the ALP.

An investigation by Fairfax Media has unearthed a slew of cashed-up but little known funds, and possible unlawful misuse of union and parliamentary staff and offices in factional fights across the country.

Can anyone really doubt that a full inquiry ought be an essential priority for the new Federal Government?

I believe it is a very essential priority for the new Federal Government to investigate unions. The time is long overdue for a full review into Unions and putting them on the same basis as other commercial entities – the present Government has an overwhelming majority of voters supporting it and must take up the task. I personally have been bitten by compulsory ‘slush fund’ payroll deductions. To this day I am still trying to get my money back.
